The book To Kill a Mockingbird to me was a melting pot of all different morals and lessons in life that I find pretty essential to know and use. The writing was descriptive and was interesting in certain scenes, however, I think the ending could have been better. When Boo Radely saved Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell, when Atticus' never ending determination to help Tom Robinson out in the trail, and how some characters in the book were against racism. I view society as both good and bad based on the experiences I've read in this book. Scout and Dill's encounters were funny sometimes as you see life from their perspectives and views, I also liked the funny conversations they often had, such as their proposals and the children they were going to have. Miss Maudie, Atticus, and Calpurnia were all wise in my opinion and their actions are honorable and respectable throughout the book.
In this unit, I learned life isn't always going to be fair for everyone, that justice can't be achieved for everyone in this world. The book TKAM was focused on many different topics for example justice/injustice, innocence, curiosity, racism, viewing things from others perspectives, integrity, freedom, femininity, inequalities, and so on. All these themes were addressed through out the book in different situations in the Scout's childhood. I learned that you should never judge others since you don't see the situation from their point of view or perspective. As you grow up, there are going to be hardships and obstacles you are going to see and experience and you are going to have to face them. Your decisions and actions don't need to have society's approval, stand up for what you believe is right and just. Atticus, for example, defended Tom Robinson in a hopeless trial, but he was doing the right thing and took a stand in what was just.
This unit was overall OK, I like the book as it had useful lessons someone can imply to their own life. The book was interesting in certain parts and the climaxes were very exciting and thrilling. I was disappointed with the ending, I feel that there should have been more depth and detail after all of what happened that night. In conclusion, the book was good and thoughful.
